From his first red Raleigh to racing competitive cyclocross — bikes have been a part of Todd Steigerwalt’s life for as long as he can remember. Just ask his dog Pippa, who get a front row seat to the action.
When people ask me how long I have been riding, I tell them since I could walk. I honestly don’t remember how old I was, but I do remember the that very first scavenger hunt my father put together for my brother and myself. At the end of the hunt we opened the door from the kitchen to the basement, and there it was, a shiny bright red Raleigh. I will never forget that first bike and it was the first Christmas I could really remember.
That first bike eventually led Todd to racing cat 3 cyclocross, and an unlikely cycling companion….
When I met my fiancée, at the time my girlfriend, she constantly asked if we could get a dog. I kept telling her that we could, but I had a few conditions. I wanted a dog that was small enough that we could bike ride together. Yes the dog and I. She came through we adopted Pippa in June of 2017. The day after we adopted her, Pippa found herself in a Timbuk2 messenger bag while I walked around the house. Now several months later, Pippa will join me on two to three rides a week. She even has her own Instagram where people follow her adventures.
