Hydration is one of the most important aspects of having a successful race. Fifth place finisher Julian Kyer stated, “Hydration is the number one reason why we were successful. We knew each time that we reached down to our bottles they were going to be cool”. Second place finisher Travis McCabe stated, “They were a lifesaver. I was trying to drink at least two bottles per hour. With other guys you see lots of salt deposits on their jerseys but because of OSMO and Polar Bottles we don’t loose as much salt as other seem too”.
Team SmartStop had a successful weekend at the US Road National Championship, snagging a first and second place victory, followed closely by a fifth place finish. Eric Marcotte took first, followed by Travis McCabe in second, and Julian Kyer in fifth. The US Road National Champsionship took place in sunny Chattanooga where the race took four small circuits in town before shooting out of town to make four long loops including the climb up Lookout Mountain. The team rode to success with Polar Bottle water bottles in all their bike cages.
It was a humid and hot day, but Eric Marcotte was able to claim the biggest victory in his cycling career. This was the first race where the team had to race in such high humidity percentage. The biggest hurdle the team faced in this race was figuring out how much they would sweat in humidity compared to the dry heat of their last race (The Tour of the Gila in Silver City). Polar Bottle water bottles stocked with cold water was key on their training rides.
Five of the seven SmartStop riders finished the race, while only thirty-two of the eighty-three riders finished the race. Team SmartStop was well prepared and well hydrated thanks to their Polar Bottle water bottles.
